I Change My Water Heater 2025: The platform has been opened

By Ioannis Papikas, 1 min reading time

The platform for the subsidy program "I Change My Heating System and Water Heater" is now open, and interested parties can submit their applications electronically.

The program is aimed at households that wish to purchase and install a solar water heater or heat pump in their home, whether it is primary, secondary, rented, or leased.

Applications have exceeded 20,400, while the submission deadline is March 20, 2025.

Program Features

The program provides financial support for:

  • Replacement of energy-intensive systems of old technology with modern solutions, such as solar water heaters and heat pumps.
  • Installation of new heating systems, even if they are not pre-existing systems to be replaced.

The total budget amounts to 223.2 million euros, of which 44.6 million euros are intended for energy-vulnerable households.

The objectives of the program include:

  • Improving the energy efficiency of homes.
  • Saving money by reducing energy consumption.
  • Reducing the use of systems based on fossil fuels or biomass, which burden the environment.

Subsidy through the "Change Heating System and Water Heater"

The program covers:

1. Solar water heaters:

  • 50% or 60% subsidy of the purchase price, depending on income criteria.

2. Heat pumps:

  • 50% subsidy for the purchase of a new system.

3. Additional installation work:

  • 50% or 60% subsidy, including the cost of transportation, installation, consumables and accessories.

Submission of Applications

The program concerns all categories of residences (main, secondary, rented or concessionary).

Beneficiaries who had received a voucher from the previous program "Recycle - Change Water Heater" but did not redeem it, can make a new application using the same VAT number.

The evaluation of applications is done comparatively, taking into account:

  • The existence of disabled members.
  • The number of dependent children.
  • The location of the residence in atmospherically polluted areas or areas with a high number of degree days (for heat pumps).
